Doshas

Vata has space and air elements.

Vata is linked to movement and supports breathing, circulation, and nerve impulses.

Some qualities are dry, cold, light, subtle, moving, and clear, which can easily create coarseness and brittleness in the body if these qualities increase in this dosha.

Pitta has fire and water elements

Pitta is associated with digestion and metabolism. It is responsible for transforming food into energy and maintaining the body’s heat.

Some of Pitta’s qualities include being slightly oily, hot or warm, sharp, liquid, and flowing.

When Pitta dosha increases, it can lead to inflammation, fever, acidity, anger, irritability, and skin rashes.

Kapha’s elements are water and earth.

This dosha is responsible for structure, immunity, joint lubrication, and strength. Some of its qualities include coolness, heaviness, softness, oiliness, stability, and sweetness.

An increase in Kapha can lead to heaviness, stagnation, slow digestion, lethargy, congestion, and swelling.

Understanding your unique dosha combination is crucial in Ayurveda. It is important to identify your predominant dosha constitution, known as Prakriti.

By gaining insights into your dosha, you can make dietary and lifestyle changes that help maintain balance, health, and well-being in your mind, body, and spirit.
